George’s Story

My Great Grandfather, George, was a prisoner of war and didn’t come home straight away after VE Day.  When he did come home he remained affected by his experiences for the rest of his life.  My lasting memory of George, a gentleman, was how he always mumbled when he spoke, never really moving his lips.  When I was old enough to understand I was told it was because of his time as a PoW, talking in the camp had been forbidden and he had become used to speaking without moving his lips.  A life long reminder of what he had endured.
