Week Ending 28th September

We can now start to really get the look and feel of our new build this week.  The floors have now been laid, the staircases are in place and the external walls are starting to go up.  From the outside this will start to reduce the visibility of what is happening inside the building, however, from a few key vantage points we can still see into the building and watch the works as they continue.

This week starts the beginning of the Post-16 process for our Year 11 students. Kicking off with an assembly Friday 27th September informing our Year 11 about the application process. Following this assembly, Year 11 students will be off timetabled lessons Wednesday 3rd October to do a series of workshops: Using UCAS Progress; writing personal statements; personal finance and talks on apprenticeships and technical qualifications to prepare them for Post-16. Once our students are more prepared and ready to ask questions on Thursday 11th October we will host a number of the local Post-16 Centres for our annual Post-16 progression evening. All Year 11 students and parents are welcome to attend. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Cambridge District Schools Football Squad

Congratulations to Lucca Guissani (defender) and Victor Dwumah (striker), as they have been selected for the under 13 District School Football Squad.  They were selected from a very large and competitive field of players from almost 20 secondary schools in our area.  Both will make their debut very soon!

Rugby and hockey fixtures

The college rugby and hockey fixtures continued this week at Bottisham Village College. The Year 11 rugby team, Year 8 and Year 9 hockey teams all won, with the Year 8 rugby team losing narrowly by two tries.

We were delighted this week to collect our High Performance Learning Award. Chesterton being recognised as a world class school is a testament to the continued hard work of our students, their families and our staff in believing that every child can succeed during their time with us.

House competitions continued this week where students tried to earn points for their house by guessing the song after only hearing a five second clip. A strong Fawcett team, who had a great turnout, were crowned victorious guessing 9 out of the 10 songs! Hill finished runners up, followed by Robinson, Equiano, and then Cavendish. Next Tuesday break time the challenge is Countdown!

The MFL department is now offering two Italian lessons a week: Tuesdays for those taking their GCSE this summer and Thursdays for all levels. We have more than 30 students enrolled. Ms Martinelli is the teacher.

This week we say a fond farewell to Denise Moore, our Attendance and Admissions Officer, who has been with us for the past fifteen years. We wish her all the best in her new home on the coast.

Two Chesterton musicians Oli Smith (alto sax) and Gerard Noguera-Marco (bass) were part of the Cambridge Youth Jazz Band who performed at the Old Riverport Jazz Festival in St. Ives last weekend. They’re now busy working on some new pieces to add to their set list for when they play at the Cambridge Jazz Festival on 18th November in Eddington. https://www.storeysfieldcentre.org.uk/event/cambridge-jazz-festival-youth-band/
